Abstract

849,704. Electro-magnetic yarn tensioning devices. LINDLY & CO. Inc. July 9, 1958 [Jan. 2, 1958], No. 21992/58. Class 120(2) and 142(1). Yarn y passing between two discs 3, 4 and round a central member 2 is tensioned by the pressure between the discs caused by an electro magnet 5 which attracts the top disc. The member 2 may be of a ceramic composition or chromium plated brass. The lower disc 4 is non-magnetic and may be chromium plated brass. The upper disc 3 may be of steel. Several tension devices 1a-1d, may be connected in parallel and controlled by a potentiometer 39. Individual adjustment is provided by resistances 41. The current may be A.C. which is passed through a rectifier 38 to provide a uni-directional pulsating current or alternatively a constant D.C. supply may be used. When used on a warping machine, the tensioning devices are in circuit with a stopmotion so that when the machine is stopped extra current is supplied to the tension devices thereby increasing the force on the yarn and preventing overrun or slackness.
