Abstract

1,111,098. Tensioning strandular material. LEESONA CORPORATION. 16 Nov.. 1965 [22 Dec., 1964], No. 48676/65. Heading DID. Yarn Y or other strandular material is given an approximately constant tension by being passed through a device comprising guides 76, 74 mounted on a frame member 70, a rotatable member 90 (see also Fig. 3 not shown) which has eyelets 97, 98 and pegs 128, 130 and is urged to rotate by a spring (100) and projections 124, 126 mounted on the frame 70. In use the yarn is threaded as shown in Fig. 4 and the spring (100) rotates member (90) so that the yarn is forced to follow a sinuous path as in Fig. 5 (not shown). Changes in tension of the yarn coming to the device cause the member (90) to rotate with or against spring (100) and the yarn to follow a path which is more or less tortuous; thus the tension in the yarn leaving the device is regulated. A cap (104) in which the end of spring (100) is fixed may be rotatably adjusted to adjust the tension in the outgoing yarn. A damper is provided to prevent member (90) "hunting". A small, constant tension is given to the yarn by a double disc tensioner as it enters the device. In Fig. 1, not shown, the device is shown mounted on a multiple twist spindle and is covered by a cap 62 to keep out lint and the running yarn.
