Abstract

1449274 Knitting machines W E A SHELTON 19 Aug 1974 [17 Aug 1973 10 Oct 1973] 38978/73 and 47263/73 Heading D1C A yarn tensioning device for use in a knitting, weaving, winding or warping operation comprises a pair of plates, suitably discs or cymbals 10, 11, held in confronting relationship by restraining means such as a post 12 and urged together by a spring or gravity, the yarn being fed between the discs and through an aperture 10a in one of them sufficiently large to allow the passage of knots and slubs, excessive tension in the yarn moving the discs tiltingly apart to allow the tension to return to normal. The yarn is guided by pot-eyes 13, 14 or other guides and a stop motion may be provided. In the Fig. 4 embodiment the centre post 12 is replaced by peripheral finger members 25 with a bridge piece 26. The yarn may follow a similar path to Fig. 2, with the aid of an input guide 27, or the path illustrated using a guide 28.
