Abstract

The extension spindle comprises an upper small dia. post and a slower large dia. post joined by a shoulder, and an annulus is freely slidable on the upper post and is urged towards the shoulder by a magnet in the lower post, whereby to clamp and exert a frictional force on yarn passing upwardly between the annulus and the upper part. The upper and lower posts may be connected together by a screw connection to vary their relative positions and thereby the magnetic attractive force on the annulus; alternatively an electromagnet may be used. The frictional force tension untwists the yarn and can be readily varied for different yarns.
