Abstract

870,219. Twisting-spindles. CHEMSTRAND CORPORATION. May 21, 1959 [May 28, 1958], No. 17352/59. Class 120(2) Yarn-twisting apparatus comprises a yarnholder 17 rotated by a wheel 16, and an annular member 23 encircling the yarn-holder and the annular member is supported in floating manner in such a way that the yarn can rotate freely around it to be wound with twist on the holder. The ring is held in position by the repellent force of similar magnetic poles, a number of permanent magnets being arranged around the ring and a similar series being arranged in a second ring 24 also surrounding the package and fastened to a flange 26 secured to a traverse rail 22. In order to prevent the ring being unduly dragged by the yarn, some of the magnets are arranged so that opposite poles face one another, and to maintain the ring 23 properly centered at the start of a winding operation compressed air is supplied at 46 to passages in the flange 26 from which it is directed against the ring.
