Abstract

927,981. Twist-tubes. ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH N.V. Jan. 22, 1962 [Jan. 27, 1961], No. 2303/62. Class 120 (2). A false-twisting device comprises a spindle with a central bore and at one end a yarn guideway transverse to its axis, a driving system for the spindle engaging one side thereof, and a magnet consisting of one or more tubular members of permanently magnetized material forming part of the spindle. The or each member has its magnetic poles axially disposed and each of uniform intensity around the axis. The spindle is held in engagement with the driving system by the magnetic force between the member or members and a piece or pieces of magnetic material on the side of the position of engagement between the driving system and the spindle remote from the spindle. In the device shown, grooved false-twist spindles 12 (one only being shown) each carrying a magnetized sleeve, are supported in the recesses formed on opposite sides of, and are driven by, overlapping pairs 2 and 3 of friction discs 8, 9, and 10, 11, the pair 2 being rotated by a belt 13. A piece of soft iron 15 is positioned between the spindles and extends adjacent the shanks thereof. The spindles are pulled into the recesses by the magnetic force of attraction between the piece 15 and the sleeves.
