Abstract

852,714. Magnets. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. Jan. 30, 1959 [Feb. 1, 1958], No. 3354/59. Class 35. A releasable permanent magnet support or workholder comprises a single block of ferromagnetic material having pole faces separated by slots which extend nearly to a central bore containing the magnet. The slots may be filled with synthetic resin or the like to exclude foreign matter. As shown, the soft iron block 37 is divided by a circumferential slot 40 to provide pole faces 38, 39 connected by a thin, easily saturated, bridge of material 42. The magnet 31, with pole pieces 32, 33 is axially movable to a position where it is short-circuited by one side of the block. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown) the magnet is rotatable in a differently shaped block, and each pole is in contact with either one face (the " on " position) or with both faces (the " off " position).
