Abstract

928,879. Magnetic holding devices. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. March 14, 1962 [March 15, 1961], No. 9749/62. Class 35. A magnetic work holder may be switched . " on " or " off " by rotating the generally cylindrical magnet 12 through 90 degrees in a casing 10 which has the holding surfaces divided into at least two pole regions 20, 22 and 21, 23 by recesses 15, 16. The magnet 12 comprises pole faces 13, 14 with spaced ribs 26, 27 on its side faces, the ribs and pole faces being machined to fit in the bore 11. In the " on " position, shown in Fig. 3, the flux circuit may be completed through surface 25 of magnetic material to retain the device or will retain magnetic material placed across faces 20, 22. In the " off" position the magnet is rotated through 90 degrees (Fig. 4, not shown) and the flux is short-circuited through the sides of the casing. The magnet is cast from an aluminiumnickel-cobalt alloy and the ribs and pole faces ground to size.
