Abstract

937,397. Magnetic holding devices. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. July 18, 1962 [July 19, 1961], No. 27541/62. Class 35. A de-energizable magnetic work holding device for holding workpiece 5 (Fig. 1) comprises a soft iron housing 1 having two parallel bores 6, 7 with two permanent magnets 9, 10 magnetised perpendicular to their longitudinal axis mounted for counter rotation therein each magnet having a pinion 16 at one end, engageable with an associated rack, each rack forming part of a switching pin 20 slidably mounted in the housing 1, to cause rotation of the magnets. The magnets may be of the sintered oxide type and have pinions of non-magnetic material. Also the housing may be constructed so that the dividing wall between bores is less than 3 mm. in thickness. In the holding condition the magnetic field of each magnet follows the dotted path shown in Fig. 1 while when the magnets are rotated 90 degrees the magnetic field is shortcircuited horizontally through the housing.
