Abstract
1,213,962. Magnets. ERIEZ MFG. CO. 6 March, 1969, No. 11894/69. Heading H1P. A permanent magnet device the external field of which may be " switched off " comprises a pair of polepieces 17, a ceramic stator magnet 19 and a ceramic armature magnet 10 supported on bearings in a casing 11. In the position shown the magnets aid one another and produce a field at pole faces 20 but by rotating the armature 10 through 180 degrees the magnets form a closed circuit and no external field is produced, Fig. 2 (not shown). The armature may be provided with curved polepieces 13, 14 and may be rotated to intermediate positions to provide a continuously variable external magnetic field. The device may be utilized in a magnetic sweeper, Fig. 3 (not shown), as a chuck, Fig. 4 (not shown), for lifting iron beams, Fig. 5 (not shown), or sheets, Fig. 7 (not shown), or for removing magnetic particles from material, Fig. 6 (not shown).
