A false twister comprises two axially parallel discs for supporting a twist tube 5 having magnetic ends 7, 8. and magnetic means 13, 14 arranged to act upon each end portion 7, 8 from opposite sides. The magnetic means can be horse--shoe magnets arranged one on each side of the discs (as shown) or each magnet can have a pole on opposite sides of the discs Fig. 2.
