Abstract

938,457. False-twist tubes. G. SCHAFER, O. SCHAFER, G. SCHAFER Jun., and O. SCHAFER Jun., [trading as KUGELFISCHER GEORG SCHAFER & CO.]. May 15, 1962 [May 17, 1961], No. 18670/62. Class 120 (2). Means for driving a false-twisting tube comprises laterally-spaced pairs 1, 2 and 3, 4 of coaxial discs, a rotary tube 13 between the pairs, and magnetic means 10 attracting the tube against the disc-peripheries, the tube having two axially-spaced collars 11, 12 with outwardly-tapered cross-sections; each collar being adjacent to a polepiece having a curved recess 18 of smaller radius of curvature than that of the associated collar, the recess being opposite the collar. The discs of each pair are flanges of a spool of synthetic resin one of which has an axle 7 in contact with a drivebelt 8, the other being an idler. Both spools are carried by a tiltable support. The magnetic means may be a horse-shoe type magnet so disposed that each pole lies between the angle formed by radii of the associated discs each of which is normal to the tangent common to the tube and the corresponding disc. The magnetic flux is concentrated at the edges 19, 20 of the recess and passes from one pole to the other through the tube in the direction in which the thread travels. The collars are arranged a short distance from the discs. The arrangement minimizes axial movement and tilting of the tube and the development of heat and braking effects by eddy-currents.
