Abstract

1,099,012. False twist apparatus. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Sept. 4, 1964 [Sept. 16, 1963; Oct. 16, 1963 (2)], Nos. 36414/ 63, 40841/63 and 40906/63. Heading D1D. [Also in Division F2] A hollow yarn twisting head 23 is supported by an air cushion and frictionally driven by a disc 54. The head 23 is located against the disc 54 by the yarn 56 and a permanent magnet 18 with an axial hole 25 for passage of the yarn 56. The air cushion is supplied by holes 21 from a pressurised chamber 20. The disc 54 may be permanently magnetised to attract the low hysteresis metal head 23 or the air cushion arranged to supplement the yarn 56 in engaging the head 23 against tthe disc 54 if the magnet 18 is dispensed with. The head 23 may be of magnetic material and forced against the non-magnetic driving disc 54 by an external permanent or electro-magnet. In a modification, Fig. 8, (not shown) a low hysteresis metal plastics-tired disc (45) drives the low hysteresis metal head 23 which is attracted thereto by opposite polarity generated by a coil (47) and bridge pieces (50) and (49), the latter having a bore (25) for the yarn. In another modification, Fig. 7 (not shown) a rubber or rubber like plastics-tired low hysteresis metal disc 40 frictionally driving the head 23 is supported on an air cushion and rotated by the rotating field of electric stator windings (13), whose poles (12) are connected by bridge piece (43) and a hollow yarn stem (42) to the head 23 which is thus attracted to the disc (40). In a further modification. Fig. 6, (not shown) the low hysteresis metal head 23 is magnetised by a hollow yarn stem (25) energised by a coil (36), to attract it to the low hysteresis metal driving disc (33). In a further modification, Fig. 1, (not shown) the magnetic material head 23 is positioned by a hollow permanent magnet (18) and driven by an air supported rubber type polyurethane disc (14) carrying a metal ring (15) and rotated by the rotating field of stator windings (13). The disc (14) may have a magnetic plate (27) to draw the head 23 into engagement therewith. The head 23 may with any of the above embodiments be driven by two discs or surrounded by idler and driving discs. The driving disc may be rotated on a fixed spindle or driven through a belt drive or directly from an electric motor.
