Abstract

1377670 Moving magnetic heads SOC INDUSTRIELLE HONEYWELL BULL 22 June 1972 [24 June 1971] 29391/72 Heading G5R [Also in Division F2] In a disc memory unit, the magnetic heads are carried by a sliding carriage 1 which is driven by an electric motor 4 of the "voice-coil" type and carries one component 12 of an air dashpot of which the other component 11 is attached to the stationary permanent magnet core 7 of the motor 4. The dashport component 12 may indude a magnetic section (26), Fig. 3 (not shown), attracted to the core 7. As shown, a magnetic shaft 20 secured to the carriage 1 co-operates with a coil 21 in a central bore 22 of the core 7 to generate a signal indicative of the velocity of the carriage 1.
