Abstract

924,714. Electric selective signalling. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. May 8, 1961 [May 24, 1960], No. 18230/60. Class 40 (1). An indicator comprises a plurality of coils A, Fig. 1, a selected one of which may be energized to set up a magnetic circuit through core B, base C, pillar D and rotor E, the latter being shaped, e.g. as shown in Fig. 3, so as to form a variable air gap between itself and the coils, the rotor taking up a position in which the minimum air gap is in the magnetic circuit set up by the energized coil. The tip L of rotor E may be bent over towards the coils, and the rotor may extend radially beyond the coils, as shown in Fig. 1, or the maximum radius of the rotor may be less than the radial distance of the coils from pillar D. A plate carrying translucent or cut-out characters is mounted for rotation with rotor E, the characters being projected on to a screen. An extra electromagnet may be provided whereby the rotor may be maintained in its last-assumed position.
