Abstract
829,314. Thermal switches; actuation of switches. CHAMPION, C. L. Nov. 21, 1957 [Nov. 29, 1956], No. 36486/56. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXV] A switch, having a temperature-sensitive element and preferably an accelerating heater, has a heater which is energized when the switch is in its " hot " position and which is arranged to supply heat at an average rate increasing with the proportion of time in which the device is in the " hot " position. As shown in Fig. 2, a bimetal strip 10 has an accelerating heater 16 and a heater 15 embedded in a block 14 which releases heat at a substantially uniform rate even. though heater 15 is energized intermittently because it is in parallel with the switch 12. The cutter may be a micro-switch or have magnetic snap-action. In a humidity controller, Fig. 4, the strip 10 acts on one contact through a hair 19 and the other contact is on an ambient temperature compensating strip 20. The hair may be replaced by a pressure-sensitive bellows to provide a pressure controller.
