Class 137 A ventilator suitable for use in a motor coach, consists of a pivoted ventilator flap or flaps which are held in their open, closed or intermediate positions by a spring-loaded dead-centre device which is past its dead-centre position when the flaps are fully open or closed. As shown, the ventilator comprises a frame 10 to which two flaps 13 and 15 are pivoted at 14 and 16 respectively. The two flaps are linked by the actuating mechanism which consists of a hollow, rectangular section lever 24, pivoted at 26 to the side walls 18 of housing 17, two spring-loaded inserts 28 being carried inside the lever 24 the ends of the inserts carrying projecting pins which pass through slots 34 in the side walls 18. The top pin is connected by an axial bolt 37 to the top panel 13 through a link 35 which is pivoted to the draught-preventing wing 36, and the bottom pin is connected to the bottom panel 15 by an axial bolt 40 passing through a slot 38 in the flange 39. In the open or closed positions of the flaps, the spring- loaded inserts urge their attached pins against the ends of the slots 34 thereby holding the flaps open or closed, in the latter position an effective seal being provided by the co-acting resilient strips 43. The flaps may also be held in one or more intermediate positions by the spring- loaded pins engaging one or more notches 41 in each of the slots 34.
