581,266. Louvre wall ventilators. GREENWOODS & AIRVAC VENTILATING CO., Ltd., HUGHES, B. D., and FORD, E. L. Aug. 16,1944, No. 15653. [Class 137] A louvre ventilator comprises a wall box 1, containing fixed louvres 2, one or more sliding elements 3, 4, 5 with shutter plates 7 rigidly secured thereto, arranged to bear on and slide against one edge 2* of the fixed louvre, and means for moving the sliding elements and thence the shutter plates towards or away from the fixed louvres for the purpose of opening or closing the apertures between them. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the fixed louvres 2 are angularly disposed at the front of the box and the apertures between them are closed by pulling the rod 8 attached to the middle of the sliding element 5, causing the horizontally supported shutter plates 7 to move. The plates 7 may be formed with a projecting ridge 7* to engage the rib 12 formed in the fixed louvres 2. The fixed louvres can be of inverted V-form and fixed in the middle of the box, the shutter plates closing the space between the outer legs of the Vees. In a further modification, the plates move in a plane at right angles to the fixed louvres, a cord secured to the sliding elements effecting the movement. The cord may be replaced by a lever, whose rear end is shaped to engage beneath the lower edge of one of the shutter plates.
