Abstract

817,194. Insulating cable joints; preventing access of moisture. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Jan. 24, 1958 [Jan. 24, 1957; Feb. 7, 1957], Nos. 2659/57 and 4280/57. Class 38 (1). Moisture-proof seals between sleeve 4 and telephone cables 2, 14 are made by casting on the plastic cable sheaths cylinders 13, 15 of water-proof insulating material, which may also cover the plastic cable core insulation 17, and providing annular rubber or similar bungs 18 under axial compression to make circumferential seals with cylinders 13, 15 and sleeve 4. Cylinders 13, 15 may be of coldsetting expoxy resin and may have circumferential ribs of triangular or other crosssection. The sleeve 4 may be of rigid metal or of thermo-setting resin composition or may alternatively be of soft material such as soft lead or polyvinyl chloride in which case a reinforcing ring, such as a worm-driven clip, may be applied outside the sleeve over each rubber bung.
