Abstract

966,125. Insulating cable and wire joints and terminals. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. July 26, 1963 [July 27, 1962], No. 29022/62. Addition to 833,787. Heading H2E. A method of making a seal between a metal cable sheath 1 (Fig. 2), and a fitting 3 through which it passes, or between two parts 3, 4 (Fig. 1, not shown), of such a sheath includes placing a layer of insulation 5 between the fitting and the sheath or between the two parts of the fitting 3, 4 (Fig. 1, not shown), and building up in situ without using a mould or poultice of reinforcing material and synthetic resin in a plastic reactive condition as described in the parent Specification. The reinforcing material used may be polyethylene tetraphthalate, and a body of polyester resin may be cast around the entire joint inside a P.V.C. sleeve 14 and wooden bushes 13. The layer of insulation may be incorporated between the cable sheath and the fitting shown in Figs. 3A and 3B of the parent Specification, and any of the materials used may be those disclosed in that Specification.
