Abstract

1,098,304. Cable terminations. RAYCHEM Ltd. Dec. 29, 1964 [Dec. 31, 1963], No. 51425/63. Heading H2E. The end of a mineral insulated cable 8 is sealed by means of a heat recoverable plastics sleeve 1 with a meltable insert 4, having holes 6 and 7 through which the conductors 10 are passed, the sleeve being heated so that it contracts to grip the cable and so that the insert melts and fills the space within the contracted sleeve, Fig. 8 (not shown). The sleeve may be partially contracted as shown after insertion of the meltable insert, which may be of polyethylene or wax, before assembly on the cable. The sleeve may be moulded or formed from tubular material and the conductors 10 may be separated by a projection 3 or may be separately sleeved.
