Abstract

1,265,079. Cable terminations. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 2 July, 1970 [2 July, 1969], No. 33476/69 Heading H2E. A cable end is sealed by cutting back the cable sheath 3, fitting thereover a heat shrinkable plastics sleeve 5, shrinking a portion of the sleeve into engagement with a part of the cable sheath spaced from the cut-back end and introducing a casting resin 10 into the open end of the sleeve to form the seal. The sleeve which may be polythene is located on the sheath by means of a tubular former 6 having an internal shoulder 8 which bears against the end of the cable sheath with a portion 7 slidably fitting over a portion of the sheath, fitting over the portion 7 and within the sleeve 5 which engages an external shoulder 9. The sleeve is shrunk by hot-air heating, the former removed and the resin cast. After the resin has hardened the sleeve may be removed or left in place.
