Abstract
608,992. Cable joints. ' COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. March 4, 1946, No. 6661. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1942. [Class 38 (i)] A cable insulation jointing process includes the injection of a hot thermo-plastic material, preferably the same as the insulation, around the joint, into a fixed mould which comprises parts 1, 2 which enclose the joint and are provided with sleeves 12, 13 to secure cables 3, 4, between them, the cable insulation being bevelled at 19, 20. The part 2 is provided with an injection channel 17, through which the plastic insulation is forced to surround the conductors and fill-up the mould. Hot and cold fluid circulates through pipes 15, 16, 18, the plastic being under pressure for a period to prevent contraction while the joint is cooled and to expel air. Cold water circulates through pipes 14 in the mould to prevent leakage through the sleeves 12, 13.
