Abstract
1511540 Pipe joints PILGRIM ENG DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 10 Jan 1977 [8 Oct 1975] 41140/75 Heading F2G Pipes 11, 12 of which the ends have been roughened and degreased are joined by a coupling sleeve 13 which is such as to leave a clearance space between it and each pipe end, these spaces being sealed by inflatable rubber rings 19 inflated by injection of hydraulic fluid or a hardenable composition, the composition then being injected into the clearance spaces and maintained under pressure greater than atmospheric whilst the composition sets. A distance ring 14 limits insertion of the pipes 11, 12 and the hardenable composition may be Portland cement or preferably an epoxy resin, the hardening of which may be accelerated by provision of an electric heating wire disposed in the root of a screw threaded groove formed inside the sleeve 13. The joint may be broken by allowing the heating wire to heat the joint above the decomposition temperature of the epoxy resin.
