Abstract
731,896. Pipe joints; stopping leakages. RUSCOE & CO., Ltd., J. March 10, 1954 [Aug. 12, 1953], No. 22193/53. Classes 99 (1) and 99 (2). To repair a fracture or leak in a pipe or to provide a junction thereon the pipe is surrounded by a split sleeve 10, 11 there being longitudinal grooves in each of the parallel faces of the sleeve accommodating rubber or like resilient longitudinal inserts 21-24 and circumferential grooves at each end of the sleeve in which are accommodated circumferential inserts 26, 27 and each circumferential groove is tapered in its depth so that as the sleeve is tightened on to a pipe the circumferential inserts are compressed by the taper. The circumferential inserts may be of rubber of circular cross-section. The inserts could be formed by two moulded composite inserts comprising (a) inserts 21 half of 26, 22 and half of 27 and (b) 23 half of 26, 24 and half of 27. Either of as 30, 31 may be tapped for reception of a branch pipe.
