Abstract
969,078. Insulating cable joints. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. April 17, 1963 [April 17, 1962], No. 14901/62. Heading H2E. [Also in Divisions B3 and F2] An adaptor 3 of elastomeric or plastic material for joining one elongated body to any one of a limited number of elongated bodies of different diameters comprises a wall 1 transverse to the axis of the adaptor having individually upstanding from one face a number of concentric and circumferentially continuous walls 2, or 3, constituting a set as defined below. The elongated bodies include pipes and electric cables. A " set " is defined as two or more of the said upstanding walls except where a set or sets is located on one face only of the transverse wall when the set comprises at least three of the said walls. In joining tubes the upstanding wall may engage a tube either as a spigot or as a socket. A central hole 4 may be provided. If not, a cutter 23 selected from a range of sizes may be used with a ratchet 24 to cut the hole, if one is required; the adaptor being held meanwhile between a collar 26 and a cylinder 24 screwthreaded on a shaft 27. The adaptor may be jointed to the elongated bodies by cementing or welding and chamfers are provided for the latter purpose. The adaptor in Fig. 2 is a form suitable for joining 3 bodies together.
