Abstract

An adaptor for connecting a hose to a machine, adaptable to different sizes of machine fittings, comprises an annular radial plate (1) to which in one axial direction there is fixed a screw fitting for insertion and screwing-on of the hose. The screw fitting comprises two coaxial cylindrical rings (2, 5) one within the other with an annular-shaped gap (6) therebetween which is axially open to the free end of the adaptor, one (2) of the rings being provided with a thread (4) directed into the gap (6). In the other axial direction there is fixed a series of at least two coaxial tube-shaped rings (11, 12) following each other in axial direction and having stepped down diameters as the distance from the medial radial plate (1) increases. These tube-shaped rings (11, 12) consist of an elastic material and are equipped at the outer periphery thereof with resilient projections (14, 15). By engaging different rings (11, 12) different sized fittings can be connected. The smaller ring (12) may be cut off if the larger ring is to be used. <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION ADAPTOR FOR CONNECTING A HOSE TO A MACHINE The invention concerns an adaptor for connecting a hose to a machine. The machines concerned are mostly tumble-driers, but also other machines such as a cooker-hood can be connected to the hose by such adaptor; and the hose itself is generally an airconducting hose, particularly for moist air, exhausted air or fresh air, the wall of the hose being reinforced with a wire helix.
Usually, different models of machines need different diameters of the hose due to different machine fitting diameters. At least, a different adaptor is necessary for each fitting diameter to be connected to a particular hose. The usual fitting for the hose is a hose-cli.p, Obviously, such diversification is a nuisance, particularly if the plumber for a paritular installation job has not got the correct hose or adaptor vv i t h h i m.
The invention resides in an adaptor for connecting a hose to a machine, comprising a medial annular radial plate to which in one axial direction there is fixed a screw fitting for reception and screwing- in of the hose, said screw fitting comprising two coaxial cylindrical rings one within the other with an annular gap therebetween which is axially open to the free end of the adaptor, one of the rings being provided with a screw thread directed into the gap, and to which in the other axial direction there is fixed a series of at least two coaxial tube-shaped rings following each other in axial direction and having stepppd down diameters as the distance from the medial radial plate increases, these tube-shaped rings consisting of an elastic material and being equipped at the outer periphery thereof with resilient projections.
The adaptor of the invention is very versatile and allows fitting of a hose of predetermined diameter to several machines which riciht possibly be installed.
The screw fitting for fixing the hose to the adaptor makes a hose-clip superfluous and the annular gap between the coaxial rings protects the hose as it is screwed in the screw fitting quickly and conveniently, which ensures good air-tightness without obstructing the air flow. At the other side, the rings in several diameters provide for an adaptation to different diameter steps while the resilient projections compensate for smaller differences in diameter and ensure a strong fixing.
Thus this adaptor allows the connection of the hose to most machines available, fixing and dismantling being carried out easily and in a versatile manner.
The invention will be further described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a front perpsective view of an adaptor according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the back of the adaptor; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating a modification of a detail of the adaptor.
The adaptor of Fig. 1 intended to connect a moist air exhaust hose to a tumble-drier machine has an annular radial plate 1 in a medial plane which separates the machine zone from the hose zone. to the side of the hose, the adaptor has an outer axial cylindrical ring 2 having axial ribs 3 on its outer periphery so as to facilitate turning. As may be seen from Fig. 2, the cylindrical ring 2 on its inner cylindrical surface is provided with. a thread 4 having a rather coarse pitch so as to allow screwing in of a rather soft hose which itself is reinforced by a wire helix which acts as a screw in the nut-like thread 4. A further cylindrical ring 5 which is coaxial to and inside of the cylindrical ring 2, projects from the radial plate 1 in the direction of the hose to form a gap 6 between the two cylindrical rings.
This gap serves for guiding the hose when being screwed in, and also enhances the air-tightness of the hose-adaptor connection.
To the other side, a series of coaxial tube-shaped, i.e. cylindrical or, as in Fig. 1, slightly conical rings 11,12 projects in axial sequence, being interconnected by an annular radial area 13. More than the shown two coaxial rings interconnected by additional annular radial areas may be provided. Ring 11 has a first, larger diameter, ring 12 a second, smaller diameter and, if provided, further rings have even smaller diameters in stepped-down sequence. These diameters correspond to the most usual fitting diameters of the machines to be connected to the hose, such as tumble-driers. The rings 11,12 are of somewhat elastic material which enables the rings not used for a particular machine fitting as they are of too small a diameter to be cut off before installation.
At the peripheral outer surface of the coaxial rings 11 and 12, distributed over this surface series of projections are provided which are shown in Fig. 1 as pimples 14. These pimples may be almost semispherical and also are of a somewhat elastic material so as to ensure a proper fixing in the fitting c the machine and for adapting the adaptor to minor diameter deviations, large diameter differences being compensated by the different tube-shaped rings. The pimples 14 are distributed at equal distances around the rings.
Fig. 3 shows different projections, i.e. resilient wedges 15 which are wedge-shaped both in the axial and in the radial direction, increasing the volume in the direction from the free end of the adaptor towards the medial radial plate 1. Also this shape provides for a good friction fit in the machine fitting and for a compensation of minor difference variations.
