Abstract
1,040,407. Cables. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. May 26, 1965 [June 22, 1964], No. 22317/65. Heading H1A. Layer I around cable core S comprises synthetic resin material, e.g. bonded or welded overlapping polyethylene foils. Layer II is paper or other hygroscopic material which swells on contact with moisture reaching it when the outer sheath, comprising metal, e.g. aluminium, layer III and polyethylene layer IV, is damaged, and progress of water in the axial direction is prevented. Bare conductor signal lines may be embedded in the hygroscopic layer and connected to a monitor unit to pin-point damaged sites.
