Abstract

1299361 Cables BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 9 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 28139/70 Addition to 1154886 Heading H1A A telecommunications cable has a core, comprising a plurality of insulated conductors, enclosed within a waterproof sheath which is pervious to a water-impermeable medium which fills the interstices between the conductors, a substantially non-hygroscopic separating layer which is impervious to the medium, being arranged between the core and the sheath. The separating layer comprises a linear polyester tape having a layer or coating that will bond to the sheath at or below the extrusion temperature of the sheath. Copper conductors each insulated with polyethylene form a core, the interstices between the conductors being filled with petroleum jelly. A polyethylene sheath is extruded over a layer consisting of polyethylene/"Melinen S" (Registered Trade Mark)/polyethylene triple laminate tape wrapped helically about the core. A galvanized steel wire armouring and a polyvinyl chloride oversheath may also be provided. The linear polyester may be "Mylar" (Registered Trade Mark) and the tape constituting the separating layer may be longitudinally applied.
