1296147 Cables KABELWERK RHEYDT AG 16 Feb 1970 [17 Feb 1969 28 March 1969 29 March 1969 2 April 1969 (2) 5 April 1969] 7430/70 Heading H1A A plastics material-insulated 6 and/or plastics material-sheathed 8 cable having aluminium conductors 1, 2, 3, 4 has a neutral conductor formed by a solid aluminium conductor 4 provided a further less corrodible conductor 5 of smaller cross-section. The further conductor consists either of a single copper or titanium solid wire, a plurality of thinner wires with their axes parallel to one another, or a copper clad aluminium wire. The copper cladding is provided by either winding copper strips helically around the aluminium conductor, dipping the aluminium conductor into a copper chloride melt, or by vapour coating the aluminium with copper. The copper cladding is specially treated by mechanical roughening or artificial oxidation, and covered with a corrosion-inhibiting, highly heat-resistant, adhesive composition or lacquer layer. The conductivity of the neutral conductor is made similar to that of each phase conductor by reducing the cross-section of the associated aluminium conductor by means of longitudinal grooves or holes or by the removal of aluminium from the apices of the conductor. Additional insulant is employed to replace the aluminium removed and to fill the interstices between additional aluminium wires which may be stranded around the neutral conductor. The additional conductor 5, if stranded, may be given additional extra protection by filling its interstices with an adhesive corrosion-inhibiting composition based on high molecular weight polybutenes, polyurethanes, chloroprenes and copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate or silicones which are cross-linked and of low thermal conductivity. The additional conductor 5 may be external to the aluminium neutral conductor, being either of angular cross-section pressed against the inner apex, or of the same cross-section as part of the aluminium removed from the apex or of circular cross-section pressed against a plane surface produced by such removal.
