Abstract
1448618 Telecommunications cable GENERAL CABLE CORP 15 Nov 1974 49501/74 Heading H1A A telecommunications cable has a plurality of twisted pairs, each with a different lay length, grouped into bundles or cable units, each bundle in the plurality of bundles has its own electrically conductive sheath 24 and there is an outer protective sheath around the assembly of bundles. The bundle may be held together, preferably by a layer of foamed plastics 20 which may be supported by a film of other material which may itself form the conductive screen. The conductive screen may be a longitudinally applied transversely folded metallic tape. There may be a moisture impervious barrier layer beneath the outer protective sheath and this can be the conductive screen suuporting the foamed plastics layer and may be corrugated. A greaselike water-impermeable medium can be used to fill the interstices. Preferably the lay lengths differ by at least 7À5 mm. within each cable unit.
