Abstract

1400935 Cables PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 28 Sept 1973 [3 Oct 1972] 45521/73 Heading H1A In a water-resistant cable comprising twisted insulated core conductors 1, 2, 3, 4, between which is provided a powdered material 5 such as methoxycellulose which swells on exposure to any water which may enter and hence prevent further water penetration, strips of material 7, 8, are provided between the core and an outer sheath 9, the inner layer 7 being of a resin material which does not soften at the processing temperature of the material of the sheath, and the outer stayer 8 being of one that does. As disclosed the inner layer 7 is polyethylene terephthalate (softening point 240‹ C.) and the outer layer and sheath are both polyethylene (softening point 100‹ C.) so that these bond together in a water-tight manner. The insulation of the indivudual core conductors is also polyethylene.
