Abstract

1312890 Cables INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 30 Nov 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 55508/71 Heading H1A An electric cable has insulated power conductors 10, 11, 12 and a neutral conductor 13 which is covered with a sheath 13<SP>1</SP> of corrosionresistant material, e.g. elastomeric or plastics material which may be made semi-conductive by the addition of, e.g. carbon black. The core is wrapped in a transversely-corrugated conductive sheath 15, longitudinally seamed; the edges may abut or overlap. This sheath is preferably of soft steel having a thickness between 0À1 and 0À6 mm. Also suitable are copper, aluminium or their alloys; and the sheath may also be formed of two metals bonded together, or one metal bonded to a plastics material. An outer sheath 16 of plastics material which may be made semi-conductive, e.g. by using carbon black, completes the cable. A tape 14 may be wound round the core and this may also be made semi-conductive. Suggested materials to insulate the conductors are butyl rubber, ethylene propylene rubber, cross-linked polyethylene or P.V.C.; and for the sheath 16, polychloroprene rubber, cross-linked polyethylene, polyethylene or P.V.C. may be used. A filling composition, e.g. bitumen may be disposed on the inside and/or the outside of the sheath 15.
