Abstract
861,839. Electric cables. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 21, 1959 [May 21, 1958], No. 13566/59. Drawings to Specification. Class 36. A polyethylene insulated high-voltage cable has a semi-conducting layer of carbon filled cross-linked polyethylene between the metal core and an outer polyethylene insulation, the latter also preferably cross-linked. The insulation may be applied as tape or extruded on to the core and the cross-linking may be by chemical means (organic peroxides e.g. dicumyl peroxide) or by irradiation. When the outer insulation is of tape it is preferably oriented and shrunk on at 105-115‹ C. and then sealed at 150‹ C.
