Abstract

1,159,428. Cables. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. 27 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967], No. 9402/67. Heading H1A. An electric cable includes an outer concentric conductor which comprises a layer of high conductivity wires 4, for example of copper or aluminium, mutually spaced apart over at least a part or parts of the circumference, and covered by a layer 5 of lower conductivity metal in the form of tape (or tapes), for example of steel. The layer of wires 4 has a lay which reverses periodically, and the tape 5 is wound in such a manner as to leave gaps 6 between its adjacent edges or to cause adjacent turns to overlap so as to form a substantially continuous mechanical cover. The tape is tinned at least on the side in contact with the wires. The core of the cable comprises three individually insulated phase wires 1, 2 and 3, and a protective sheath 8 of elastomeric or plastics material surrounds the outer conductors.
