Abstract
1291998 Injection-moulded joint TELEPHONE CABLES Ltd 29 Oct 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 54303/69 Heading B5A A moulded joint between two plastics components is formed by enclosing the components in a metal mould of two sections, each section having a metal pipe extending therefrom, passing an electric current through the mould while injecting plastics through one pipe, around the components and out of the other pipe until the surfaces of the components have fused therewith, the mould being heated due to the electrical resistivity thereof, the current then being switched off and plungers inserted into the pipes and allowing the plastics to solidify while applying pressure to the plungers. The mould metal may have a resistivity of 6-120 Á#/cm.<SP>3</SP> and may be brass, stainless steel or a nickelchromium-iron alloy. As shown in Fig. 1, a cable sheathing 1 and sleeve 2, both of polyethylene, are enclosed in mould sections 3/4 and 5/6 having injection pipes 7, 8 with terminals 9, 10 thereon, the edges of the mould being closed by taping at 11, 12 and the sections are held by screw-clamps (not shown).
