Abstract

795,400. Mechanical couplings for cable or wire armouring. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S (SUBMARINE CABLES), Ltd. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1158/56. Class 38 (1). The armouring wires 1, 2 of a cable 3 are clamped between inner and outer clamping members 4, 5 having complementary tapered surfaces, member 4 being forced into its clamping position by a nut 10 screwing into member 5. The nut 10 projects out of member 5 and has a cylinder 14 screwed thereon which is filled with insulating compound for sealing the ends of the armouring, access to which is obtained through passages 13 in nut 10. Cylinder 14 is closed by a plate 15. The member 5 is provided with mounting lugs 18 to which bonding strips 22 are anchored and a thin brass sleeve 8 is arranged inside member 5 in which the armouring wires become partially embedded.
