Abstract

1485141 Cable glands BICC Ltd 27 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974 11 Feb 1974] 03694/74 and 06093/74 Heading H2E A cable gland terminating the armour sheath of a cable and insulating it from an enclosure 8 comprises an annular metal body member 1 which grips the sheath in a known manner. An insulator 5 is interposed between the body member and a metal mounting member 7 which has a threaded spigot projecting into the enclosure. Connection to the sheath outside the enclosure is by stud 11 and inside by tag 15 formed on a metal tube 12 screwed into the body member and insulated by a shrunk-on sleeve 14. The threaded joints between the insulator 5 and the metal members are made secure by adhesive, over-tightening or ribs and grooves on the facing surfaces and the assembly may be flameproof with the insulator having an oxygen index greater than 30.
