Abstract
784,945. Valves. HAY. J. Jan. 12, 1956 [Jan. 15, 1955], No. 1286/55. Class 7(6) The inlet and/ or exhaust ports J of an engine are controlled by one or more oscillating valves A, B, having cylindrical end portions and a conical intermediate portion, the valve control parts being formed only .in the conical portion. In Fig. 1 the ports are controlled in two coaxial valves A, B, oscillated by driving rings F, G, engaging castellations on the upper ends of the valves. In a two-stroke engine, Fig. 3, rings of exhaust ports E and supercharging air ports J are controlled by the oscillating valves A, B, driven by eccentrics F, G, and the scavenging air ports are piston-controlled. The valve B remains closed on the working stroke and opens on the upstroke to admit high pressure air immediately after the exhaust valve closes, whereby the working gases expand over a longer period than the compression period. Specification 17865/10 [Class 7] is referred to.
