Abstract

762,916. Valves. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Sept. 13, 1954 [Sept. 19, 1953], No. 26488/54. Class 7 (6). A common valve 9 in series with pistoncontrolled inlet or exhaust ports 6, 7 of a transverse cylinder pair 1, 2 and lying between the cylinders is engine-driven at a frequency which is an integral multiple of that of the working cycle. As shown applied to a twostroke V-engine, the valve 9 rotates at twice crank-shaft speed and controls exhaust, but it may be applied to V-engine inlet control, or to inlet or exhaust control of transversely paired in-phase or out-of-phase cylinders of doublecrank-shaft engines with parallel cylinder banks. In a two-stroke engine, the valve 9 may control two rows of ports for scavenging and charging air respectively. In a four-stroke engine the valve 9 may rotate at three times the working cycle frequency and may control supercharging air additional to the normal suction air. Oscillation of the valve 9 is mentioned.
