Abstract

784,585. Pipe-cleaning devices. REISS ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1956 [Feb. 8, 1955], No. 3696/55. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXIX] A flexible or rigid supply pipe 2 has a terminating part 5 comprising end portions 6, 7 parallel to and offset from each other, the portion 7 being connected to a spray nozzle 8. When the device is in use, cleaning fluid emanating from the nozzle impinges on the wall of the tube 1 to be cleaned and causes the nozzle initially to move into and then to be maintained in a position substantially coaxial with the tube. As shown, the part 5 is S-shaped, rigid, and connected to the pipe 2 by a coupling 3, the portions 6, 7 being offset relatively to each other by a distance equal to the radius of the tube 1. The cleaning fluid from the nozzle 8 is directed rearwardly and tends to propel the device forwards and in the direction of the arrow A ; alternatively, the fluid is directed forwardly of the device, or substantially perpendicularly to the wall of the tube. In a modification, the terminating part 15 is flexible and integral with the supply pipe 12 the end portion 16 of which is attached by clamps 14 to a support-base 19 ; the portion 17 is provided with a spray nozzle 18 carried on a member 21 slidable in a sleeve 20 mounted on the base ; the member 21 is held in an adjusted position by a screw 22. Antifriction rollers on the base facilitate movement of the base with respect to the tube 11. A1- ternatively, the member 21 is mounted on the base 19, and the sleeve is carried by the nozzle or the part 15.
