Abstract
852,287. Suction cleaners : pipe joints. HAULEVILLE, L. E. L. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1198/57. Classes 8(1) and 99(1). A suction cleaning nozzle 22a, Fig. 11 (not shown), is connected by a flexible hose 18, Fig. 1, to the suction inlet 18a of an injector having its working fluid inlet 2 adapted to be engaged selectively to I.C. engine exhaust outlets 3 of varying sizes. As shown the fluid inlet 2 serves as a tapered coupling and has an enlarged portion 2a in which is housed a resilient washer 1 capable of sealingly engaging circular exhaust pipes 3 of varying diameters. In a modification the resilient washer 1, Fig. 3, is located at the narrow end of the tapered coupling member 2 and is engaged by the end of the exhaust pipe 3 which is held central by spring clips 4. In a further modification wherein the end of the exhaust pipe 3, Fig. 5, is provided with a deflector 14 the coupling member 15 is of resilient material which is wedged into the end of the pipe 3 and is retained by a metal pin 12. In a still further modification on the tapered coupling 2, Fig. 6, is surrounded by a resilient sleeve 21 in sealing engagement within the end of the exhaust pipe 3. The injector may discharge into a filter bag.
