Abstract

727,621. Cleaning pipes. WALTON, S. R. Feb. 23, 1954 [Feb. 24, 1953], No. 5079/53. Addition to 675,513. Class 99 (2). In the apparatus described in the parent Specification wherein a shank 11 carrying a brush 12 is coupled to forward and rearward support members 8, 17 having collars 6, 19, e.g. of rubber, to receive fluid pressure for propelling the device through a pipe, a pilot member 3 is disposed forward of the member 8 and coupled to'that member by a spring 9. There may be two brushes 12, 15 mounted on rigid shanks 11, 14 connected together and to members 8, 17 by springs 10, 13 and 16. The member 3 may be screwed at 3a to receive a tube 4 carrying a rigid collar 5 clamping the collar 6 against the member, the tube being closed by a boss 7 provided with bores 7a by which fluid passes to forwardly and outwardly extending bores 3b in the member. The member 8 is similar to member 3 but has a greater number of bores 8b. In the member 17 the collar 19 is clamped against the member by a flange 18a of a tube 18 screwed into the member, and the bores 17b are greater in diameter than the bores 8b. When the member 3 passes a "T" junction in a pipe and the collar 6 no longer provides a seal in the pipe a thrust is developed on the collar of the member 8 to continue the forward progress of the device ; when the member 3 has passed the junction the thrust on the collar 6 is again developed to continue the motion of the device.
