Abstract

884,698. Tube couplings; VAN DEN BERG, C., and VAN DEN BERG, X. May, 6, 1960 [May 11, 1959], No. 16137/60. Class 99(1). Tubes A, B are coupled by a sleeve 17 of flexible material permanently fixed at one end within bulged annular zones at the end of the tube A and removably engaging at its other end the inside of the tube B being closely applied to a bulged annular zone at the end thereof under the action of pressure fluid contained in the pipes. The sleeve 17 may be of rubber, polyethylene of polyvinyl and preferably consists of annular zones which are successively flexible and rigid. Projections 15, 16 on the sleeve are compressed in the bulged portion of the tube B which may be provided with one or more apertures 20 for the escape of air. The tube B may also be formed with an aperture to correspond with one or more-apertures in the sleeve through which fluid may be evacuated from the pipes.
