890,090. Cleaning sewers. MAASBERG, O. Sept. 8, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 30950/60. Class 99(2). [Also in Group XXIX] The walls of a sewer are cleaned by jets 4, Fig. 2, of water issuing substantially rearwardly from a discharge nozzle 2a fitted to a hose 1 to which the water is supplied at approximately 60 atmospheres or more, the hose and nozzle being propelled in the sewer by the reaction produced by the jets 4. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, two nozzles 2a, 2b are fitted in respective end connected hoses 1a, 1b the nozzle 2a effecting propulsion and the nozzle 2b having radially and/or forwardly discharging outlets for cleaning purposes ; the pressurized water is alternately supplied to the two hoses. In a further modification, the nozzle 2a carries at its extremity a mechanical cleaning device such as a scraper or an inflatable member which becomes effective when the hose is drawn back.
