Abstract
724,011. Jet-propulsion nozzles. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT), Ltd. May 28, 1953 [May 30, 1952], No. 13775/52. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXXIII] A jet nozzle unit for an aircraft includes a partly curved guiding side wall extending beyond the nozzle orifice and on that side of the nozzle towards which it is de. sired to deflect the jet, means on the said side of the nozzle for reducing the pressure on that side to cause the jet to follow the guiding wall, and means operable at will to change the direction in which the jet leaves the wall. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the connecter pipe 1 changes rearwardly from a circular to a rectangular cross-section. The nozzle member 2 is formed with a semi-cylindrical part 2e projecting into the nozzle which sets up a pressure gradient across the nozzle to deflect the jet. A member 3 extends across the nozzle and is tangential to part 2e, being rotatable about the axis of part 2e to detach the jet stream at any desired point. The nozzle may be divided, see Fig. 5 (not shown), into two vertically superposed orifices, the lower set forward of the upper.
