Abstract

779,534. Rail-spikes. WIRSING, E. Nov. 11, 1954 [Nov. 16, 1953; April 10, 1954], No. 32724/54. Class 89 (2). A rail-spike bent from spring-steel strip comprises legs A, B, Fig. 1, interconnected by a bridge 5 and having looped heads 6 engaging the rail-flange 2 obliquely. Bridge 5 may form an abutment for the flange and also limits penetration of the legs into the sleeper. In a modification, the heads are normal to the railflange. In a further modification, a spike has one leg C, Fig. 4, with head 8 and abutment 10. The head and leg are re-inforced by a strip 12 welded or soldered thereto. In another arrangement, the strip is bent so that the thickness thereof is at a right angle to the rail-flange and the bridge may be on the side either nearer to or further from the flange.
