Abstract
807,874. Rail-spikes. MILLS Ltd., J. [Executors of] Sept. 21, 1955 [Sept. 25, 1954], No. 27740/54. Class 89(2) A rail-flange, chair or base-plate-securing spike comprises a shank 18, Fig. 1, and a loop-shaped head 17 extending in a plane substantially at right-angles to the shank, the free end 20 of the head constituting a gripping-arm lying adjacent the shank. The head is joined to the shank through a curved part 25, Fig. 4, off-set to bring the upper driving-surface 27 into substantial alignment with the shank. In a modification, the head end 20, Fig. 7, is bent round to run parallel with the rail-flange, and is arcuate to engage the flange at a position 36. Specification 897,873 is referred to.
