Abstract
770,240. Suction control in paper-making machines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. March 23, 1955 [March 23, 1954], No. 8518/55. Class 96. Suction boxes of the wire and wet press sections of a Fourdrinier paper-making machine are connected to a rotary compressor 22 acting as a suction pump, one such suction box 5 contained in a pick-up roll 4 at the couch end of the wire having its suction controlled automatically as a function of the suction in another suction box or, alternatively, by setting, e.g. an hydraulic control 59 having its suction controlled by hand. Servo-motors 52, 54, 57 control suction throttles 53, 55, 58 for suction boxes 5, 17, 18, 19, 20, e.g. in accordance with the position of a double piston 36, 37, &c. If the web breaks, pressure rises in bellows 31, pushing up the pistons 36, 37 and the roll 4 may be raised away from the couch.
