Abstract

1,273,508. Papermaking machines. TAMPELLA AB. OY. 17 Feb., 1970 [3 March, 1969], No. 7524/70. Heading D2A. A compound papermaking machine comprises several web-forming units placed one after the other at a distance from each other, at least one comprising a horizontal cylinder, a slurry feed box opening onto the upper surface of the cylinder, and an endless wire or felt arranged to wrap part of the cylinder surface after the feedbox and to lap part of the surface of one of a plurality of rolls which guide the felt or wire, the portion of the felt or wire between the cylinder and the roll being adapted to carry the web from the cylinder to an endless lower wire or felt, for receiving and combining the webs, situated beyond said one roll. The first web-forming unit may be a headbox arranged to feed slurry to a horizontal part of the lower wire; this part also being provided with dewatering elements, e.g. suction boxes. The cylinder machine units may have a common felt or wire which wraps part of the surface of each cylinder in turn, and thence back to the first cylinder. The wire or felt of the cylinder machines may pass, together with the lower wire or felt, through a press nip between rolls, the lower one of which may be a suction roll.
